Of Greenery and Seafood

In celebration of our Agong's birthday, a bunch of us made full use of the public holiday to explore the little town of Sekinchan in the Sabak Bernam district of Selangor, on a Motor Treasure Hunt.

Although part of the contributions collected went towards the Myanmar Relief Fund, participants got a whole lot more out of the trip -- an appreciation for one of the largest paddy-growing towns in Malaysia.

Our drive from Taman Melawati to Sekinchan took four hours including short pit stops for clues and a breakfast stop at Batang Berjuntai. With a rush of adrenaline towards the end, the eight cars met at a beach (does anyone know the name of that beach?) to enjoy the seabreeze while organisers tabulated scores.

Lunch was at Restoran Kim Kee, where each of us paid only RM10 each for a scrumptious seafood feast. Mm mm!

Before heading home, we stopped by the paddy fields to observe the harvest and appreciate the greens, as strongly recommended by an enthusiastic local farmer.

All fresh and ready to go at 8:50am in the morning. My teammates Edwin, Mei Lin and Sharon (did I mention earlier we came in first? :p)

Attempting to spell P-A-D-I for the extra "creative shot" points.

The "nameless beach" is recognisable by this huge anchor.

The air was very surut that day.

The cooks at Kim Kee sure know how to prepare fresh seafood well, retaining all its natural flavours and sweetness in every dish.

Where birds' nests are collected. Those concrete buildings home sparrows.

The paddy fields in Sekinchan are well-known for its twice-a-year harvests.

The fields are green-apple green just before harvest season

Even if you're not a fan of our little towns, Sekinchan is a must visit for it's very affordable and fresh seafood. Locals describe the place as one of the most beautiful on earth, with green paddy fields beyond their porch and a beach in their backyard.
