In growing up, I've realised that as we mature, age after all is just a number. What is more important is how we feel about ourselves at that point in life and what we're doing about our life. Birthdays are then celebrated at the "more important" years like 30, 40, 50... and more important events like getting married, securing a promotion or buying a new property become more exciting for us.
This March, my hubby and sis still made the effort to make it a special one.
Joyce and I had lunch at a fairly new cafe on the 6th floor of Plaza Singapura called Tea Cosy. The shop doubles up as a furnishing shop called Ten Thousand Angels.
The food counter is situated all the way in the back, so first timers who aren't aware it serves food my be hesitant to enter. If you are spooked by little cherubs, you may want to decide on dining somewhere else. One word describes this place: dainty.
While I can't quite imagine two guys hanging out here for coffee, it's a lovely place for some girl time.
Joyce had penne with prawn laksa while I had linguine with shredded duck in a soupy sauce. Tasty. We both had lychee freezes.
After catching Alice in Wonderland, we returned to Tea Cosy for a platter of cakes to taste and coffee. That green drink that looks like something chandu is actually chocolate mint coffee. A little too sweet to be paired with cakes. I should have gone for a black coffee. The chocolate mint coffee on its own would have been right.
That pretty much wrapped up my day and I had to head back to get ready for dinner. Ernest had made reservations for Equinox!
This restaurant has remained a classic place to dine gourmet in Singapore. It is situated on the 70th floor of Swissotel and is known for its spectacular view of Singapore.
Tables by the window cost extra $20 and bookings are open for 6:30pm and 9:00pm. Unless you are a regular at this restaurant, it is a good idea to book the earlier slot so that you can have a good view of the city before and after sunset.
I had Equinox Blue, some signature cocktail which was a little too sweet to be enjoyed with dinner. Ernest had a smarter choice, a pinotage.
Extra virgin olive oil, butter and a fruity cream cheese is served as bread condiments to begin.
Ern had the Nova Scotia Lobster Tartar with Salt Cured Tasmanian Salmon, Smokey Ancho Chilli Gazpacho with Avocado Ice Cream.
I had the Pan-fried Foie Gras de Canard with Vanilla Sweet Potato Puree, Caramelized Baby Bananas with La Mauny Plantation Rum. Delicious!
Ernest's main: Moroccan spiced Rack of Lamb with Feta Crust, Potato and Eggplant Bistilla with Pomegranate Molasses.
My maincourse: White River Veal Medallion with Slipper Lobster Skewer Corn Polenta, Grilled Artichoke Confit and Fonduta.
We shared a Golden Apple Tarte Tatin with Calvados Ice Cream, Light jelly and Espuma from Vintage Apple Cider. *smuck*
For those who are interested in food and wine pairing, there is a set dinner specially put together where every course is paired with a different type of wine.
To a great year ahead!!
