Completing the Reunion

The last person to arrive in Singapore to complete my family reunion was Ernest, who arrived on Christmas Eve.

We (my parents, my sister, her husband and unborn child and Ernest) had a family dinner that night at Bobby's at Chijmes, where they have BBQ pork ribs as good as or better than Tony Roma's. It's fall-off-the-bone tender and marinated just right - not too sweet, not too salty, not too saucy, not too dry. The only thing was that the portion was enormous. We were all a little overwhelmed with meat at the end of it.

Dinner ended with Bobby's Christmas Trifle, which I was told was nothing like what a trifle traditionally is. It was more like vanilla ice cream mixed with berries and mint leaves, wrapped with gelatine and re-frozen. It was refreshing anyway.

We were all too full to do anything else but sip tea (to decongest) and open presents in the hotel room.

Afterwards, Ernest and I headed down to Orchard Road to soak in the festivities (and other people's sweat!). It was crazy packed! Orchard Road was closed to traffic and there was a display of floats with season greetings and stage performances.

Some people were just standing around with their can of fake snow and aerosol stringers waiting to spray others, while the large majority were in the crowded sea of moving people trying to get from one place to another. It took us about 30 mins to inch our way from Far East Plaza to Somerset MRT station. As there was no central point guiding the countdown to Christmas, we witnessed several countdown sessions during our walk down Orchard.

It's quite interesting to observe how Christmas is celebrated in different cultures. Hopefully, my opportunity to see it in other countries will wait for me.
